8 easy ways to be more active for busy people

Here at Soulful, we don't like to overcomplicate stuff.

You're busy.

Exercise doesn't have to be 90 mins of holding poses like a pretzel (if you do do that, no shade, that's awesome!), so we've simplified it.

Exercise is getting moving.

It can be popping a podcast on and taking your dog for a stroll, or busting some serious moves whilst hoovering with 90s dance classics playing on your Alexa.

Here are 8 easy ways to be more active, even when you're very busy!

1. Grab the lead and walk your dog

Your body — and your pooch — will thank you! Don't have a dog? Download BorrowMyDoggy or see number 2 👇😉

2. Take your children, housemate or your partner for a walk

It’s an excellent way to get some face time without screen time. Explore the neighbourhood and you can even play some fun games like 'Eye Spy'.

3. Walk and talk

Even if you’re glued to your phone for work calls, you don’t have to be glued to your chair. Make it a habit to talk and walk. If you're back in the office, you could suggest a 'walking meeting' to your colleagues.

4. Put on some tunes

Power your cleaning session with your favourite Spotify playlist or podcast, you'll clock up steps in no time! Double points for singing, dancing AND hoovering.

5. Tune into fitness

Retrain your inner couch potato. Walk or jog in place, do yoga or lift weights, or walk on the treadmill at the gym while you watch your must-see TV shows.

6. Ditch the wheels

Spare yourself the parking stress and log some more active time by parking farther away (or even leaving the car at home) and walking or biking to your destination. Catch the bus or the tube to work? Get off a stop earlier and walk further in. Keep an umbrella in your bag for this!

7. Take the stairs

That lift may go up — but it doesn’t make your heart rate climb. Take the stairs when you can, even if just for a floor or two. And don’t stand on the escalator – climb it. Those can be active steps, too!

8. Reach for the stars

Not done any star jumps since PE at school? Make it a habit to do squats or star jumps whilst the kettle boils or the microwave is on. Simples.
